MAAW - Moms and Allies Against War
"MAAW" means "us" in Farsi.
We are a group of Iranian-American moms and their allies coming together with one demand: Stop the War on Iran.
Wary of political differences that often divide, we aim to stay outside the fray by focusing solely and relentlessly on one message: Stop the War on Iran.
While individually we come from varied backgrounds with different visions for both Iran and America, in this forum we join voices with all who are against the unnecessary war of aggression on Iran.
We believe our unique position as mothers on both sides of this war gives us the privilege and indeed the duty to speak up for peace!
Why Moms?
It is our role as mothers that informs the group's spirit. We hope it will keep the group focused on an anti-war message that is as universal as motherhood.
Why Allies?
Because we need all the help we can get, and we were approached by many who wanted to help, and asked us to include them. Instead of being exclusionary, we decided to be inclusive and keep the criteria for joining the group broad.
Plans for Action
We hope to spread our message using several approaches:
1. organizing & growing MAAW with weekly meetings and
sharing on our Facebook page & group chat;
2. Online activism;
3. Lobbying & petitioning lawmakers.
4. Attending demonstrations & events.
5. Spreading our message through traditional media outlets.
6. Being open to suggestions for further activism.
No Stance on the Iranian Government
MAAW, as an organization, does not take a position on the Iranian government. Our only goal is to end the war on Iran. MAAW does in no way wish to limit our members from expressing their own individual private opinions about the Iranian government. Because we want to keep our focus fully on an anti-war message, we’d like to discourage prolonged discussions about the past, present or future governance of Iran.
Opposition to Sanctions on Iran
MAAW also calls for the immediate lifting of all sanctions that have placed Iran's civilian population on the brink of a humanitarian crises.
Anyone who wants an end to the war (or sanctions) on Iran can join us in amplifying this single message: "stop sending our children to kill our children!" Stop the War on Iran.
